"Alfatheha" for the ones who has lost thier lives in this BOTCHED US raid...

Botched US raid leaves 40 civilian Afghans dead

KABUL -- Afghan officials said on Tuesday that American warplanes had bombed more villages in central Uruzgan province, where scores of wedding guests were killed in an apparently botched US raid two days earlier.

The US military and Afghan officials were investigating the Sunday night bombing, which local officials say killed 40 people at a wedding party in the village of Kakrakai in Uruzgan's Dehrawad district.

The Pentagon, conceding there were civilian casualties, has said a bomb went astray during an air-attack that was launched after anti-aircraft artillery fired on a coalition reconnaissance operation in the area.

But a spokesman said it was unclear whether the deaths 'were the result of our errant bomb, or if they were the result of anti-aircraft artillery.'

Governor Raz Mohammad said that the leader of the Taleban, Mullah Omar, was believed to be hiding in mountains in the province.

US special forces in conjunction with the forces of Kandahar provincial governor Gul Agha were conducting operations in the area to track down Omar, who has eluded the Americans during their nine-month old military campaign in Afghanistan. -- AFP
